“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.” -  my favorite quote, by Mother Theresa

ABOUT ME

Sasha Raskin

Hi, My name is Sasha Raskin and I believe that everyone—and I mean EVERYONE—is deserving of having intimacy and connection and of being seen and loved  These are not nice additions to a good life—they are absolutely essentials to it.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t think we do.  Not because we did something wrong or are outliers, but because of a lot of the social and cultural norms that breed insecurity and that make love a condition based on success, achievements, and accomplishments and acting and behaving a certain way.

I started A BEAUTIFUL MESS to change precisely that.

And also because I struggled.   I spent most of my life as a high-functioning, high-achieving suicidal depressive.  I started college at 16, graduated with Honors from UC Berkeley, and held fancy corporate roles.  First as a Literary Agent in Hollywood at one of the biggest talent agencies on the globe, UTA, where I represented bestselling books for authors ranging from celebrities to business moguls and neuroscientists.  I then became an executive and co-founder at an artificial intelligence company, and attended fancy conferences like Davos.

But I spent most of my life pretty miserable and a few years ago it even culminated with my checking myself in for psychiatric hospitalization.  You can read more about that HERE.  The short version of that story is that checking in I was really embarrassed and thought my life was over; that no one would want to be my friend or  date me, much less love me.  I wanted to keep it a secret for that reason, but instead told EVERYONE I knew.

That changed my life—being open, sharing, having REAL discussions about what matters. Nor running away from intimacy, joy, heartbreak, pain, anger.  But inviting it in.

That was the best decision I ever made.    Along with many other changes, I went from a life of self-loathing, self-hatred and disconnect to a life of DEEP sense of self.  And of self-worth.  Love. Connection.  Growth. Intimacy.  Play.

And I want that for you too.

Because you deserve it. Because we ALL do.
